Madarao Mountain Resort is one of our favorite resorts in the region. It has something for just about everyone.

For orientation purposes,  note that mote of the accommodation is at the top of the #1 lift. From there you ski down to the base area and catch lifts up to most of the terrain on the far side. At then end of the day you need to take the #1 lift back up to the accommodation area.

For those looking for thrills and excitement, Madarao Mountain Resort boasts some of the best inbound tree runs in Japan. Clearly marked and well maintained, these course offer a glimpse of the back country, yet with the safety of knowing that the patrol is on hand if something goes wrong. (As with any off piste activity, understand the risks and take precautions). While most of the tree runs are good  throughout the day, the 2 natural half pipe runs (called “Sawa”) can get tracked out early.

There is also good on piste for beginners and intermediates. But be careful of the Eastern side of the resort, as the runs flatten out a lot at the bottom and can mean a long walk in deep snow back to lifts (as I have found out personally). Getting back to the main slopes from the #11 lift also requires some walking.

The resort links to Madarao Tangram Tokyu Ski Resort, and combined tickets are available to allow you to take in both resorts at the same time. They are linked by the #15 & # 13 lifts.

The main cafeteria at the base of the resort has excellent meals and is huge. A great place to rest and hang out with friends.
