Akakura Kanko Ski Resort
Great Lifts and Long Runs
Akakura Kanko Ski Resort (“Akakan” or “Akkan”) is one of the most popular resorts in the Myoko Kogen Area.
Although it only has 7 lifts, apart from the Sky Cable Gondola, all are modern high speed quad lifts. There is a large range of slopes catering to all levels, and combined day passes for the Akakura Onsen Ski resort next door can be purchased. The lower slopes offer some very good beginners terrain, while higher up is a lot more advanced.
While the vertical on the resort is excellent, there are a few places that really flatten out and most people will need to scoot, or unclip and walk to get from the southern part of the resort, to the northern. There is also the same issue with getting to and from Akakura Onsen Resort.
The Akakura Kanko Hotel is located right in the middle of the resort, and is one of the finest ski resort hotels in Japan. Not only a the facilities 5 star, but the views are worth the price of a room alone.
For a Japanese ski resort, it is very well signposted , and it is easy to figure out where you are.
The base center is modern and has rental facilities. For lessons contact Myoko Snow Sports.
