Akakura Onsen Ski Area is one of the two main ski areas in the Central Myoko Village of Akakura. Connected to Akakura Kanko Ski Resort, the combine ticket makes for a long day on the slopes with plenty of terrain to explore, although getting between the 2 resorts can be tricky as it is not well signed and the connections are quite flat.

It is very much an old school ski resort, and we found it to be fun, but quite difficult to navigate (especially compared to the quality of signage and information on neighboring Akakura Kanko Resort.

Akakura Onsen has several distinct areas, and there is a whole of of beginner and low-intermediate terrain. And the mountain tends to go across the mountain rather than connecting lifts going up to a summit.

There are a only a couple of high speed lifts, while the rest are quite slow. And operations vary depending on how busy the resort is.

However on a powder day there is almost unlimited fresh snow to enjoy, and the quality is excellent.

The 2 main base areas are Yodel and Kumado. Both have lift ticket sales kids rooms and locker rooms.
