Mt. KOSHA (X-Jam & Yomase)
Yomase and X-Jam are combined resorts in the south of the Kita shiga Valley. They are linked by a lift from X-Jam to Yomase, and you can ski from Yomase to X-Jam (quite a fun run actually).
Yomase is the larger of the 2 resorts and has 3 main lift. The pair that runs to the summit is the only high speed lift, while the quad is not too slow.
X-Jam is famous across Japan for it’s park, which can get quite crowded on a busy day. 2 half pipes run alongside each other, with a number of jumps also. The rest of the resort is quite good for just cruising.
Services in this area are still done the old Japanese way, and while the lessons are good (Japanese only), the quality of the rental gear and service is lacking. Better to bring gear from Nozawa or other places that do have quality rental equipment.
Overall, it is well worth the day trip as there is a bit of something for everyone. Even some good tree skiing!.
There are signs warning not to climb over to Kijimadaira, but that is more an issue on the Kijimadaira side than Y0mase. The summit of Mt Kosha is about a 30 minute hike from the topmost lift.
