Ichinose, Terakoya, Takamagahara Ski Areas

The Center of Shiga Kogen

Ichinose, Terakoya and Takamagahara are the very center of Shiga Kogen. There are many large ski in/ski out hotels in this area.

The main road bisects the area, and Ichinose Diamond and Ichinose Yamanokami areas are on the West of the road, while the rest of the resorts are on the East. There is a lift accessed bridge across the road between Ichinose Family and Ichinose Diamond.

Ichinose Diamond and Ichinose Yamanokami are small fields with 3 lifts in total. They serve more as an access route to get to Yakebitayama and Oku Shiga to the north. The Yamanokami Pair lift in particular is very slow.

Across the road at Ichinose Family, you have a lot more terrain, with some excellent tree skiing (unofficial info). Ichinose family, like the name implies is good for families, as the main 3 lifts operate in close parallel, with the shorter lift being good for first timers, the 2nd lift being good for those looking to up their game, and the main quad lift running to the top of the resort and accessing the main top to bottom advanced slope as well as the winding courses through the trees.

The other Quad at Ichinose Family is great for looping trees, as if you get off to the right, there is a connection to Takamagahara, and you can dive into the trees on your right as you go along.

Above Ichinose Family is Terakoya. The hike here is very flat and boarders will need to scoot along, but once at Terakoya, you’ll find it worth it. As it is higher than other areas, the snow quality here is high, and the volume is much great then other parts of Shiga Kogen. There are even days here where it snows so much your tracks are covered before you do the next look. Getting out of Terakoya requires a ride up a slow pair to the summit of Higashidateyama.

Parallel to Ichinose Family is Tannenomori, with one quad lift, and Takamagahara with 3 lifts. There are some on-piste trees in this area, and Tannenomori in particular has a lot of zig-zags through the trees.

At the base of Takamagahara you can cross a bridge to get to Nishidateyama area, but you do need to climb a little in that direction.
