Oku Shiga Kogen Ski Resort
Some of Shiga Kogen’s Best Terrain
Oku in Japanese means “in the back”, and Oku Shiga Kogen is the most distant resort in Shiga Kogen. It is also one of the larger resorts and boasts 2 of the top hotels in the whole Shiga Kogen area, with the “Grand Phenix” being the place the Japanese Royal Family stays for the ski vacations.
The resort has terrain for all levels, with the slopes in front of the Oku Shiga Kogen Hotel begin good for beginners. The high speed pair has more advanced terrain, but there is a cat track on the northern side that allows even beginners to ski the top of the mountain.
The resort has 2 main areas, the Hotel Area, and the Gondola Area. The areas are only linked at the top, and if you wish to go from the gondola base to the hotel base, then you need to catch a shuttle bus.
The resort has 1 gondola and 5 pair lifts (2 of which are high speed).
There are 2 access points to Yakibitaiyama Ski resort next door, but both require some walking.
There are some back/side country gates in the area between Oku Shiga and Yakibitaiyama. This terrain is not patrolled and people enter at their own risk. Full back country equipment is required.
