志賀高原是日本佔地最廣、標高最高（這裡的最低海拔是1,500公尺）的滑雪度假勝地，這裡共有快20個獨立經營的滑雪場，持有全山纜車券的話就可以滑遍每一個角落。大部份雪道是相連的，但 橫手山 和 熊之湯 這兩個雪區位於高原東部，自成一角。

我們曾嘗試挑戰一天之間滑遍整個高原，但那是沒有可能成功。一般來說，4-5天的行程能讓您有充足的時間好好探索全部的雪區，但山上缺乏餐飲及其他娛樂場所，如您喜歡晚上也熱鬧的話，上山前要有心理準備。

志賀高原位於上信越高原國立公園內，大大限制了這裡的開發和發展。這裡有不少 飯店，大部分是可直接進出雪場的ski in / ski out住宿，這裡沒有自助式住宿和背包客住宿。住宿位置也非常重要，我們推薦 一之瀨 地區和 王子飯店 是，它們都位於高原上較方便的位置。

志賀高原交通網路 is via a single road up from Yamanouchi township, so getting in and out during major snow events can be an issue, as avalanches sometimes cut off the road.

On most nights you’ll wind up eating in at your hotel, as there are not a lot of restaurants in the area.

So while Shiga Kogen may not be big on après ski, the vastness of the resort, and the quality of the snow make it a great destination.
