Nozawa Onsen does not have a lot of shops like Hakuba does, but it does offer good access to Iiyama, Nagano, and even Karuizawa.
In fact a day trip to the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza is a great way to spend a day.
The Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza is one of the largest outlet malls in Japan, with over 200 brand name outlets spread over a 26 hectare property.
While there are many fashion, accessory, and sportwear brands, there are also a number of very good restaurants.
And if you have some spare time, then a walk through the streets of Karuizawa is a great way to spend a few hours.
To get to Karuizawa from Nozawa, you catch the bus to JR Iiyama Station and board the Shinkansen Bullet train there. From Iiyama to Karuizawa is about 45 minutes. There is generally one train an hour that covers this route.
Closer to home, Iiyama City has a few shops and supermarkets (even a couple of cheap Sushi Restaurants), while the area around Nagano Station also offers a few departments store and some night life.
